| Holocaust Memorial Week and the Numerberg Trials: A Critical Reassessment |
|
The annual Holocaust Memorial Week at the University of Essex marks the liberation of the Auschwitz concentration camp on January 27th. As this year’s main theme is discrimination, the dates of the conference have been purposely chosen to coincide with the Holocaust Memorial Week. In light of this special occasion, the MUNEX committee has decided to organise a panel discussion on the Nuremberg Trials on January 28th. The forum entitled “The Nuremberg Trials: A Critical Reassessment” aims to trigger a discussion on the judgments and consequences of the trials. This event will be open to the public and will include experts from such fields as law, history, philosophy, and politics. The discussion will be chaired by a moderator and seeks to establish an interactive and educated discussion between the audience and the panel of experts.
While the opening ceremony of the MUNEX conference will only take place the next day, the discussion on the Nuremberg trials is an introduction serving as a bridge between the past and the future. The aim is to see how what effects discrimination had and how far we have come in the past 60 years and what can be done about it now.
We acknowledge that participants from outside the university may have difficulties attending the event due to additional costs. However, we believe that this will be a memorable discussion and thus will try to make special accommodation arrangements for participants who want to arrive early.
