Welcome Letter from the Secretary General

Dear Delegates,

On behalf of the organising committee, it is our great pleasure to invite you to the third annual Model United Nations conference at the University of Essex (MUNEX), which will be held from 29th to 31st January, 2010.

Once again, MUNEX is partnering with the world-class expertise at the Human Rights Centre at Essex, which includes such names as Sir Nigel Rodley, John Packer, Kevin Boyle, Francoise Hampson, amongst others. Due to this unique focus, we will simulate the United Nations Human Rights Council. Committee sessions will be integrated with discussion panels given by experts in their field.

This year’s conference will focus on the theme of “Contemporary Forms of Discrimination” with subtopics intended to explore the variety of issues that affect modern society. The chosen dates for the conference are not casual. The commemoration of the liberation of Auschwitz on 27th January will be a great launching point to explore different forms of discrimination and their prevention over time. In this context, there will be a special event with a panel of experts, “Nuremberg Trials: A Modern Approach”, revisiting the principles set down in the trials and their influence on the modern legal framework.

MUNEX has always been a conference where we have tried to accommodate all of the delegates needs. We have once again secured sponsorship that will keep your costs low. Included in the £25 registration fee will be all lunches, tea, and coffee throughout the conference. A social package for the fee of £15 will also be available and will include the entrance to the Global Village-International Food Night and after party on Friday evening and a dinner and club night on Saturday evening.

Registration is now open. Late registration deadline is 20th January. Please visit the registration session for further details: http://www.munex.org/registration. Also, you can find us on Facebook (MUNEX 2010) or follow us on Twitter (MUNEX2010).

We are looking forward to meeting you in January 2010.

Yours sincerely,

Kirill Albrecht

Secretary General
